FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE ALGARVE

It’s not hard to fall in love with the beauty of the Algarve landscape! Stunning cliff top views, the ocean glistening in the sun and endless, golden sandy beaches are the perfect backdrop for a romantic break and we’ve been reminiscing about our favourite spots on the Algarve.

First on the list is La Cigale Restaurant in Olhos de Agua, the place to watch the sunset with the one you love! Built on the rock face of Olhos de Agua beach, close to Albufeira, this famous seafood restaurant directly overlooks the sea. In fact, at high tide, it can feel like you’re on a boat looking out of your cabin window. The sandy beach is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, and we love to enjoy a cold glass of fizz whilst watching the traditional fishing boats bobbing along the shoreline as they bring in the fish, crab and lobster served at La Cigale every day.

Parrilla Natural, in Almancil brings a touch of South American romance to the Algarve. Set in one of the most idyllic locations, this Uruguayan inspired steakhouse restaurant is packed full of personality. The memorable setting is secluded yet vibrant, with elegant tables set out on the large deck and dotted through the mature gardens. We love the tables under the huge pine tree complete with twinkling lights, ideal for a romantic dinner with your loved one. At the weekends there’s live music and if you’re really feeling that love is in the air, you can even get married at Parilla Natural.

Or why not take a romantic stroll around the lake at Quinta do Lago. Head east along the coast and through the nature reserve where you’ll get the chance to see lots of wildlife and the locals catching shellfish for the day. As you walk along the border of the Quinta do Lago resort, you’ll love the stunning views of the golf courses that stretch right out almost to the ocean. From Quinta do Lago lake, head west and you can also enjoy the picturesque trails that lead to the resort of Dunas Douradas.

As the sun sets, we recommend Casa do Lago Restaurant and Bar, next to the lake and not far from the ocean! Famed for its exquisite cuisine, Casa do Lago features an outdoor terrace, pool and fire pit. You’ll love the stunning sunsets, beautiful interior décor and the warm and inviting ambience, a perfectly romantic little spot!

For something a little more adventurous try a romantic boat trip to Ilha da Culatra. The island is part of the Ria Formosa national park and the only way to reach it is by boat. Here you can explore the natural scenery, abundant wildlife and large lagoons whilst taking in the stunning scenery.

Ilha da Culatra is a working island village with a school and a church, where most of the fishing boats operate and fish for their daily catch of fabulous fresh sole, octopus, oysters, clams, horse mackerel and sardines.

Lunch on Culatra is a must – try a plate of six oysters or a delicious cataplana (sea food casserole) to share and the local wine is pretty good too! After a long and lazy lunch another boat ride down the coast line takes you to a delightful and amazing beach. You’ll love spotting the many pretty shells and eggs from sea creatures like cuttlefish and stingrays that are swept up on the shore.

After a truly memorable day enjoying the romance of the Algarve, simply sit back and watch the sunset from your villa – the perfect end to the perfect day!
