Our Favourite Family Restaurants on the Algarve
If you’re looking for fabulous family friendly restaurants, whilst enjoying views of the ocean and traditional Portuguese cuisine then we’ve got a treat for you. Here’s our personal favourite restaurants guaranteed to keep everyone entertained this Summer.
BJ’s Oceanside
This restaurant is right on the beach at Praia de Almargem at the western tip of the famous Golden Triangle. With a stunning backdrop of pine trees and views of the Atlantic this is a heavenly beachside spot!
Ideal for long lunches or dinner at sunset, BJ’s serves fresh fish straight from the daily markets as well as steaks, pasta and a snacking menu accompanied by a cool glass of sangria or a Portuguese wine.
You’ll love the live music sessions on a Friday and Sunday afternoon and most days during the summer – but be sure to book in advance as this is one popular place to be! Owners Bex and J have thought of everything with the laid back vibe, good food and breathtaking views. Our favourite moment is dancing on the deck whilst the sun goes down, watching the children playing on the golden sandy beach!
Parilla Natural Steakhouse
This restaurant is a unique restaurant set in its own beautiful gardens and the outdoor deck and terrace create a wonderful ambience and a romantic setting.
Not far from Vale do Lobo, Parilla Natural is a real dining experience and exudes the charm and warmth of South America. You can even choose a table underneath the fabulous old umbrella pine tree that takes centre stage in the restaurant, whilst its pretty twinkling lights create an inviting backdrop for dinner.
The meat is 100% Uruguayan grass fed beef and this is expertly cooked over firewood brought in from the Alentejo region. There’s also fantastic chicken and fish dishes expertly created by Parilla’s team of chefs.
So you can focus on good food, good wine, with your personal sommelier and the ambience, there’s a fully equipped play area for the kids with slides and rides and an open air cinema with a popcorn stall and ice creams.
The play area is fully supervised too with staff providing face painting and entertainment. Make sure you check when reserving your table, as some of these fantastic services to keep the kids busy are only available during the summer months.
We love to end the evening with one of Parilla’s famous cocktails, accompanied by live music and great company!
Koko Lane
Staying in Quinta do Lago, why not try Koko Lane, located next to the Driving Range and overlooking Quinta do Lago Mini Golf. You have a fantastic children’s playground right next to the open air restaurant, so you can relax over coffee and watch the kids having lots of fun!! Open all day, Koko Lane has a relaxed vibe ideal for eating out with the family.
You’ll love the daily bistro specials or why not try the authentic pizzas straight from the traditional wood fire oven. The breakfasts are fantastic, with healthy and very tasty options to choose from, including freshly made pancakes with Nutella and banana for the kids! There’s also burgers, sandwiches, salads, juices and cakes too, served all day – suitable for all the family and their differing tastes.
If you don’t feel like eating in, Koko Lane also offer a takeaway and home delivery service too, giving you the chance to have a laid back family evening in your villa.
Sandbanks Fish & Seafood Restaurant
In Vale do Lobo’s famous Praça there’s the stunning Sandbanks Restaurant with views of the Atlantic Ocean and the fabulous beach.
We love the open terrace, where you can take in the views during chilled Summer evenings. For dinner why not try the traditional Portuguese Cataplana?– fish stew over a glass of chilled vinho verde.
Beachside restaurants like Sandbanks are so laid back and the perfect place to watch the kids while they race around on the beach and enjoy an ice cream, whilst you get to sample a cocktail or two.
Every Sunday in Spring through to the end of Summer there’s live lunchtime music at Sandbanks, something for all the family to enjoy!
