Carvoeiro is a town on the south coast of the Algarve. For a town that originated as a fishing village, Carvoeiro has now grown into a large tourist destination and there is lots to do in and around the local area. Visit One of the Sandy Beaches

Perhaps one of Carvoeiro’s biggest attractions, a trip to the beach is a must. Make sure to set aside a day to really appreciate the golden sand and beautiful sea. The town’s main beach, Praia do Carvoeiro, is situated right in the centre, so nearby facilities are in abundance. There are amenities, such as showers and toilets, and as the town is nearby, you can also enjoy the larger selection of restaurants that are on offer. For something a little more exhilarating, the beach offers many water sports for you to try your hand at.

Go On a Boat Tour

The coastal region that covers Carvoeiro is bursting with beautiful beaches nestled between rocks and cliffs. For a fun day out exploring, go on a boat trip and visit some incredible marine caves which can only be visited and explored by boat. This is a great day out for all the family and is sure to be a day that will be remembered for a long time.

Visit Alfanzina Lighthouse

Located just next to Carvoeiro beach and the town centre, Alfanzina lighthouse is sure to be a hit with young children. Built on top of a cliff and tasked with guiding the fishermen, the lighthouse is now a big part of the traditional landscape of the Algarve and is full of history of Carvoeiro.

Go Shopping

If you fancy a spot of shopping or even a trip to the cinema, then head to one of the local retail parks or shopping centres that are close to Carvoeiro. A short journey away, Aqua Portimão is one of the largest shopping centres and has around 117 shops spread across three floors. It’s open daily from 9 am until midnight and has shoe and toy stores, as well as a Primark and H&M.

Head for a Hike

Carvoeiro is a hikers paradise and has numerous routes and trails which follow the hill and cliffs of the coastline. One of the most famous routes is the O Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos trail, extends for around 5 km from Praia da Centeanes to Praia da Marinha. This trail follows the finest coastline of the Algarve and offers a challenging hiking trail. Don’t forget your walking boots!
