Quinta Alegria is a truly unique property, minutes away from all that the Algarve has to offer, from stunning beaches to the romance of Lagos’ old town.

The property as a whole can accommodate 20 people – 17 in the main house and a two-bedroom cottage at the bottom of the property which can accommodate another 3-5 people and can be hired in addition to the main house as required.

The Quinta became a family hobby with the owners, who are keen gardeners, creating the now much-admired grounds which cover 10,000 sq ms and create an atmosphere of tranquility for guests. They planted the Italian garden by hand, establishing over 1500 plants in this section alone.

The rooms all have individual styles ranging from traditional Portuguese golden & blue tones to modern mono-chrome looks. The house has a large dining area with tiled breakfast dresser, traditional and well equipped kitchen with two ovens & American style fridge freezer, large entrance hall with beautiful steep stone staircase and outdoor lounge & dining area. When the weather turns cooler, you can curl up in front of the log fire with a book, game or movie from the library.

Inside the main house there are eight individually designed bedrooms with super king size or twin beds, including one Master Suite with four poster bed, all rooms have ensuite bathrooms and have balconies or terraces and air conditioning. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated, with each room being named after one of the glorious local beaches which you can discover within a short drive from the property. All bedrooms have a private terrace or balcony with table & chairs from which to enjoy the beautiful gardens and sparkling ocean views.

All rooms have personal items from the lifelong travels of the owners – batiks from Indonesia, paintings from Sydney markets, porcelain antiques from Northern Portugal and wooden statues from Africa. Individually designed by the mother and daughter of the family, each room has a carefully chosen combination of designer fabrics, artwork and personal touches.

Add daily buffet breakfast to your stay and start your day with juice straight from the  orchard, fresh bread from the village bakery to be enjoyed with homemade jams and newly-laid eggs from the gardeners chickens.

An unparalleled garden paradise, lose yourself along the many winding paths, towering palms and flower beds bursting with colour. Admire the 400 year old olive tree from the four poster day-bed beneath it, pick some fresh organic fruit from the orchard, pose with Santa Catarina in the Italian garden, bounce with the frogs on the luscious lawns, marvel at the giant aloes around the ponds, read a book under the bougainvillea and contemplate life in the zen garden.

For children there is table tennis, football, badminton, croquet and boules in addition to the giant outdoor chess set, swimming pool and 10,000square metres of mature gardens.

The magnificent gardens are unique in the Algarve. A labour of love by the owners who dotingly planted, developed and nurtured thousands of plants over the last 40 years by the side of their long standing gardener Manuel. A botanical haven with fountains, ponds, cobbled pathways, terraces, an orchard, a Mediterranean “dry” garden, an Italian Garden, a zen garden and a giant chess set; all within walled grounds that offer complete privacy and all with the blue of the sea in the distance glinting through the trees and bushes.
