Why You’ll Love the Algarve in Autumn

The Algarve is one of the most beautiful places in Europe and is a favourite for many during the Summer months. In the Summer months, you are guaranteed to have 12 hours of sunshine on average, which makes exploring the golden flag beaches, beautiful restaurants and bars and quaint towns extremely pleasant.

If you prefer cooler temperatures and less people, then Autumn can actually be a really great time for you to visit the Algarve. September and October are perfect months for a little bit of Autumn sunshine and the temperatures remain at a mid 20s throughout the day. The Algarve boasts over 300 days of sunshine throughout the year.

October sports

If you like to remain relatively active when you’re on holiday, then October in the Algarve brings the perfect temperature for a wide variety of outdoor sports. As you may know, the Algarve is huge for golf and is home to some of Europe’s most stunning golf courses.

The cooler climate in October can make sports such as tennis, running and cycling much more enjoyable. If you’re a sports fanatic, then this is something to take into consideration.

Weather in the Algarve

The weather between September and October is still extremely pleasant as this region gets over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. Typically, you can expect 20 degrees of sunshine in the shade and mid 20s and sometimes even 30s in the sunshine.

These temperatures mean that you’ll still be able to enjoy the beautiful beaches and swimming pools and will come home with a tan. These slightly cooler temperatures will make it much easier to walk around the towns and explore the beauty of the Algarve. You can find out more about the weather in the Algarve all-year round here.

Great flight prices

Another great thing about travelling to the Algarve after peak season is the price of flights. It’s common for flight prices to be much more expensive during the summer holiday period. However, if you choose to travel during September and October, many airlines that fly to Faro will put on cheaper deals for flights in the autumn months.

The general costs in the Algarve also tend to fall due to the decrease in demand, so you may also find some cheaper services during your stay, if you choose to stay during the autumn months.

Despite the more relaxed pace of life during this time of the year, the Algarve is still incredibly filled with life, sun and fun in the Autumn months. Portugal is always an extremely beautiful place to visit, none more so in September and October.
